Harrisburg Resources
Harrisburg Directories, 1887-90
Located in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania along the Susquehanna River,
Harrisburg is one of the key cities of the state. This database is a
transcription of four city directories originally published between
1887 and 1890. In addition to providing the resident's name, it
provides information regarding their address and occupation. This
collection includes the names of over 174,400 people, mostly heads
of households. For genealogy researchers seeking ancestors from
central Pennsylvania, this can be an informative database.
Harrisburg, St. Paul's United Methodist Church Records
Rev. Dr. H. Russell Blanchard, Jr., became pastor of St. Paul's
United Methodist Church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 1992. He
aggregated records of baptisms, marriages and deaths for the church,
from 1860 to 1997. Also included in his work are general membership
records as well as a brief history of St. Paul's. Over the years the
church suffered many floods. Several of the record books have been
lost to flood waters. Books containing records from 1865 to 1868,
1885 to 1895, and 1930 to the present remain. Transcriptions of
those records as well of those that were reconstructed after the
floods are following. The very best effort has been made to
accurately read these records and preserve them considering their
poor condition. It is possible that records before 1860, if any, may
be found at Grace United Methodist Church. St. Paul's is located at
118 Vine Street Harrisburg, PA 17104. Very useful to
Harrisburg genealogy.
