Although no major battles were fought
in Maryland during the Revolutionary War, the colony was an
important contributor to the war effort. This database is a
collection of pension and bounty land claims on the state for
military service in the war. Most records provide the soldier's
name, birth date, rank, spouse, marriage date, and location of
marriage. Many entries also contain unit information, location of
service, number of acres awarded, and issue date. It contains over
3,000 pension and bounty applications along with nearly 1,000
marriages of Maryland soldiers and a list of 1,200 proved services
of soldiers and patriots from other states. For genealogy
researchers of Maryland ancestors who served in the Revolutionary
War, this can be a useful database.
