Granted by the King of England to
George Calvert in 1632, Maryland was home to nearly 300,000 people
before the Revolutionary War. This database is a transcription of a
colonial census taken in 1776. Each record provides the name of the
head of the household and location of residence. In many cases, the
individual's age is provided along with the number of male and
female residents in the household, including slaves. It reveals the
names of over 17,100 men and women. For genealogy researchers of
early Maryland ancestors, this can be an informative database.
